Pinot is a Journey

More than any other variety, Pinot Noir has the ability to translate place.  To convey the wisdom of its soil, the tenor of its climate, the emotion of its caretakers.  At its clearest expression, Pinot is a calling to consider what a wine can be. Our calling is to make the best Pinot Noir.

Wines Overview

Glass of Pinot Noir from MacMurrage Estate Vineyards

Pinot Noir & Cool-Climate Whites

We are dedicated to producing Pinot Noir in its highest expression from our estate vineyards in the heart of the Russian River Valley and California’s Central Coast—two of the most sought-after regions for California Pinot Noir. We also craft a select amount of Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, cool-climate white varieties with a unique capacity to thrive in the same exceptional soils as Pinot Noir.

Estate Winegrowing

Our winemakers collectively bring more than 100 years’ experience to the vineyard and the cellar. Thanks to our cool-climate sites and a lengthy growing season, our estate vineyards produce vibrant, expressive Pinot Noir from a myriad of clonal selections, vineyard aspects, elevations and soils. We harvest and ferment the majority of our vineyard blocks individually to capture the singular character of each site. After aging, we blend across various lots and vineyards to create wines that are a unique expression of a specific region.

Our Vineyards

Wondering how to make the best Pinot Noir? Plant it where the variety thrives. Our estate vineyards are located in the Russian River Valley and California’s Central Coast, two of the most renowned cool-climate viticultural regions in the world. Each site is home to critical differences in soil, sun exposure, elevation and other variables that contribute to the ultimate character of our wines. Vintage after vintage, we carefully tend to vineyard blocks to create wines that illuminate the exceptional quality of our vines.

Russian River Heritage
MacMurray Estate Vineyards is deeply rooted in Sonoma County. Our namesake vineyard, MacMurray Ranch, has been a farmstead since the 1850s, farmed by the Porter family until actor Fred MacMurray bought the ranch in 1941. Fred embraced the rancher’s lifestyle, raising prize-winning cattle and farming crops here for decades, while his children rode horses through the hills. Fred’s daughter—the actress, screenwriter and activist Kate MacMurray—retains an indelible tie to the estate, helping us share the heritage of our namesake vineyard, historic property and celebrated wine.

California Pinot Noir & Estate Winegrowing
Transformed into a world-class vineyard in 1996, MacMurray Ranch quickly became one of the Russian River Valley’s most acclaimed Pinot Noir vineyards.  Today, MacMurray Estate Vineyards has grown to encompass estate vineyards throughout the Russian River Valley and the Central Coast, but we continue to honor our roots and the history of the MacMurray Ranch. The original buildings have been faithfully restored, and the 1,500-acre property is home to old-growth oaks, Redwood trees and indigenous wildlife.

Winemaker Boyd Morrison and his team craft our collection of Pinot Noir wines, beginning with our home vineyard and extending to several estate vineyard sites throughout the Russian River Valley and the Central Coast.
